School Assembly Program

The World Beat Workshop with drummer Robert Jospé and percussionist Kevin Davis engages audiences of all ages in exploring the diaspora of West African rhythms in the Americas and their influence in current music styles.  Using a map, percussion instruments and music charts, this interactive program includes clapping, dancing and singing to salsa, calypso, merengue, samba and hip-hop. Musical, historical, cultural and geographical information is brought to life with the journey of clave. 

This program can be tailored to suit audiences of all ages from elementary school through adult.

We closed out our 2019-2020 World Beat Workshop Residency with an incredible morning at Wilbur S. Pence Middle School!! Thanks to Robert Jospé, Kevin Davis, the administrations at all 12 schools we attended, the Virginia Commission for the Arts for supporting Touring Artists, the community members who continue to believe in the arts for our students, and finally the over 5000+ students who had a chance to engage through the arts!!! Our school wanted to thank you for allowing the World Beat Workshop to share their performance at Dumbarton Elementary. Robert and Kevin were prompt, polite and genuinely excited to be in our school. The program was amazing! We all thoroughly enjoyed the continuous opportunities to interact during the program, and the SOL connections with the content areas including music were obviously present and greatly appreciated. Both gentlemen were enthusiastic about the information and it was conveyed in their performance.  Dumbarton would love the opportunity to have the team visit again next year! It was outstanding!
